Chiropractic Life Mt Gambier

In the October long weekend there will be a change of management at the clinic and it will be taken over by a company called Chiropractic Life. Now, you may not have heard of them before but Chiropractic Life owns a number of regional based clinics across Australia and it is owned by a colleague of mine Dr Adam McKenzie who was a Casterton boy born and bred originally. You'll be pleased to know that Chiropractic Life has a very similar approach and ethos to what we and you have known at The Chiropractic Domain. Please indulge me while I'm reading my notes to help me through this:The most important thing I believe for you to know is that Dr Ashley will remain and she will be continuing under Chiropractic Life along with being supported by Dee and Sonia. For those of you who often see me, I will be continuing my next two rotations to Mt Gambier and finishing up in December. I expect that you'll only notice minor changes around the clinic obviously the business name and the logo will change and the branding but Dr Ashley and Dee and Sonia will be still providing their care and they as they always have. So really it will be business as usual or adjustments as usual. On a personal note; because it is a personal thing when you sell a business, I'd just like to share with you that when I bought Mt Gambier from Dr Neville Creed 13 years ago, I was full of energy and and the idea of course was to develop young associates and try and teach them the way that I had approached chiropractic career in my other clinics at that time. I was halfway through my pregnancy my first pregnancy; crazy yes I know, and over the years we've had lots of lovely associates come and serve and, there have been times when there's been gaps in that and I have needed to step in all amongst managing my own clinic at Goodwood and juggling what ended up being five children in the end. So now my family has grown and my older children are spreading their wings. Simone the eldest has recently gone to university to study chiropractic herself and so a while ago she stopped being my full-time clinic manager and we have missed her expertise and her assistance. also my three younger children are now at primary school very busy and my parents are in their 80s so recently when Adam approached me and asked me if I was interested in making a change I came to the conclusion that now was the right time of my life to do that.

What is this announcement?

After 13 years The Chiropractic Domain will become Chiropractic Life

Who is Chiropractic Life?

Chiropractic Life is a group of chiropractic practices around Australia owned by Dr Adam McKenzie.

Who will be my chiropractor?

We are very happy to be able to tell you the Dr Ashley will remain your chiropractor as she is joining the Chiropractic Life team!

Dee and Sonia will continue to support Dr Ashley in continuing your care.

What if I see Dr Paula?

Dr Paula will continue to travel on her usual rotation for the remainder on 2020. Next year you will need to book in to see Dr Ashley for your adjustments instead.

Dr Paula will only be visiting Mt Gambier to spend time with her friends and family.

What is going to change?

You may not notice a lot of changes for the time being. Chiropractic Life and The Chiropractic Domain have more similarities than they do differences.

The initial changes you'll notice will be to aesthetics as logos and colours are updated.

Why now?

It has been 13 years since Creed Chiropractic became The Chiropractic Domain and in that time Dr Paula's family has grown and the energy once held for developing young chiropractors has transitioned to raising children. The support Dr Paula had from previous practice manager Simone has also reduced since Simone starting studying Chiropractic herself in 2019.

Dr Paula and her whole team are incredibly proud of what has been achieved, and though some sadness is felt we are all very excited about the change to Chiropractic Life.

When is this happening?

The October long weekend is the official change over period.

How do I book in?

To book in Goodwood you can book online or call 8272 4555

To Book in Mt Gambier you'll need to call Chiropractic Life Mt Gambier on 08 8725 3755

What happens now?

If you have an appointment already booked in, that has not changed. You can still book appointments as you normally would. If you do not have an appointment booked please call 0887253755 to book an appointment soon.

I do want to thank you sincerely even those who don't know me for coming and supporting the clinic over the many years. STEPtember 2020

Now STEPtember is a fundraiser for cerebral palsy for those young people who cannot through wish or want to be able to move in the way they would necessarily like to due to their condition. So I thought it was a great excuse for my team to once again get movingand to meet the challenge of 10,000 steps per day.Now we had a competition last year within the team and out CA at Mount Gamber; Sonia absolutely smashed us and did an enormous amount of steps. I was right up her alley not far behind her but she was the step queen. But the message I want to bring to you is it doesn't matter so much how many thousands of steps you managed to achieve over the whole month but consistency of making sure you're moving enough each day is actually part of changing your life because if you can keep that habit up that means that overall you're going to be moving and our body is going to benefit in just so many ways.So dust off your footwear go get yourself some new footwear there's a number of great places you could check that out athlete's foot which is in both clinic locations.  You could look at the running company which is on Unley road there's also another great company called Sportitude. People who will actually pay the attention to get you good footwear so that when you do walk you have greater comfort. If there's any issues that you notice that evolve from doing extra walking please come and talk to Dr Ashley and I there may be a few little mechanicaltweaks we can help you make to get going so I'd love you to put your best foot forward. Join us if you want to keep up with the tally of how we're all goingpay attention to the clinic and the Facebook posts and get moving for spring and we might just raise a little bit of money for our lovely young people who suffer with cerebral palsy tooTake care everybody

We are at the beginning of September and technically we're at the beginning of Spring; thank goodness it is good to come out of the dark and the cold even though it's still a bit nippy. So traditionally this time of year people start to come out of the woodwork and get moving and I really want to encourage you to do that, this year of all years has been a time when people have felt perhaps a little bit down have been out of their groove
due to the epidemic which we don't even need to name,  and i just want to let you know that at The Chiropractic Domain this year once more
we are participating in STEPtember. Now STEPtember is a fundraiser for cerebral palsy for those young people who cannot through wish or want to be able to move in the way they would necessarily like to due to their condition. So I thought it was a great excuse for my team to once again get moving

Womens' Health Week 2020

Women's Health Week is next month (September 7th-11th) and we would like to offer a free spinal health check if you book in between September 1st-18th.

Let's honour and celebrate our incredible bodies because as women we tend to always put ourselves last! 👑

Follow this link to make a booking online or call one of our clinics and speak to our chiropractic assistants! If you have any further questions feel free to message us below.

Call Goodwood Clinic

08 8272 4555

Call Mt Gambier Clinic

08 8725 3755

T&C's: this is a 15 minute spinal screen and posture photo only. no treatment is included. no obligation to book in as a new patient for a full assessment.

What's Included?

Good posture is important because when we position the body in the correct sitting and standing postures, there is even pressure on the spine, its surrounding muscles and ligaments. Having good posture can reduce physical stress on the body.

Deviation from normal posture can weaken and shorten the muscles around the spine causing imbalances in the body, leading to pain and symptoms.

Poor pelvis alignment may affect your postural endurance meaning that you may be in pain when sitting or working.

Hello lovely clients on a very cold August day
I just wanted to touch a few points with you and check in. First of all we are all very aware through the media of what's happening Covid wise particularly for our neighbours of Victoria.

South Australia we are on alert and we're very aware about what's going on I just wanted to reassure you that herein the clinic we are still adhering to all of our guidelines that we've been requested to do since march and we hope that you all still feel safe and you can see that we're following out those procedures; So we'll be attentive to your needs if there's anything you're concerned about please let one of us know and we will try and address any concerns you may have.

Secondly in the Goodwood practice each year we get to participate in SALA which is the South Australian Living Artist festival. Businesses in Goodwood participate by offering to host an artist and as you can see behind me here we have a beautiful landscape photographer who has put up a number of their prints a husband and wife team and we're loving and totally enjoying those prints. If anyone's interested in knowing more about it let us know and Marianne has left her card at the front desk. You can get copies of these or purchase any of them if you're that inspired by.

Lastly we're all aware that we've had such a torrent time this year and people's routines for their health have been thrown into disarray and some people have started to return to some healthy routines but there are a number of people who are still in a bit of a slump now while it's cold as hell at the moment. Spring is coming it will come and September is not far away and once more.

The Chiropractic Domain team is going to participate in STEP-tember. It's a fundraiser for I think cerebral palsy we're going to register and do our best to improve our efforts on last year. We'll have a little bit of inter-team competition between Mt Gambier and Goodwood and we'd love to invite you as individuals to participate. Now whether you register with the official site of STEp-tember is totally up to you but I'd like you to start to think about how you can increase more steps in your day. The guideline is about ten thousand steps is a healthy goal I personally aim for fifteen thousand and across my week I would certainly achieve that goal. So we're going to be talking to you more a little bit about that and keeping you updated as we go along so get out there! I know it's cold but rug up and get yourself moving.

We look forward to looking after you in this cold month of August. Take care now :)

Stressed Much?

[siteorigin_widget class="SiteOrigin_Widget_Image_Widget"] [/siteorigin_widget]
Well, are we there yet? SA has done a great job but we all know there are still hurdles to get through before our pre-COVID-19 life may return in its new form and other restrictions are lifted. I am personally grateful that our kids can go back to school and resume their education – it makes you appreciate our teachers, even more, doesn’t it?!Here at the clinics we have been welcoming more people back for their adjustment and it’s been so lovely to see you. However, the overall theme is that with the upheaval in your lives, there have been worries, extra emotions and some anxiety for many of you. Please be reassured, you’re experiencing a normal response to a very stressful, unprecedented situation.I know some of you have lost your jobs, your livelihoods are in the mix, or your workload has increased. You might be feeling worried about your health and the economy and how it affects your household. You also may have wondered why your body responds in a certain way; so I have recorded a half-hour webinar to help explain what happens to your body when you’re stressed.I hope that you find the webinar useful. I am very happy to answer questions or discuss the content more with you when you next come to the clinic and Dr Ashley can answer your stress questions in Mt Gambier if I don’t see you myself. For some of you, it would be time to do a progressive comparative review including our special EMG/ & HRV stress scan to see how you’re going and what you can do to increase your body’s resilience as we head into the cooler months. We can also announce in Goodwood that Hugh Gilchrist is once again able to commence his remedial massage service as of this week – many of you would have missed his healing hands!Stay well and I will see you soon,Dr Paula

Review into Chiropractic Care for Children under 12

Review into Chiropractic Care for Children under 12

Despite some unfavourable press, chiropractic care is, to quote the President of the Australian Chiropractic Association (ACA) Dr Anthony Coxon, "safe for children because chiropractors are trained to suitably modify techniques to suit age and presentation"As many of you will know, a review into chiropractic care for children has been conducted by Safer Care Victoria over the past 8 months. For those of you who participated in the survey before July this year, thank you! Of the 21,824 respondents, 21,750 (99.7%) were supportive of the care received. The Chiropractic Domain team is committed to continuing to providing an exceptional health service for ALL ages.We strongly believe that parents should retain the choice to have their children assessed and treated by a chiropractor within best practice measures, including a trial of care. We will continue to provide robust, measurable outcomes for all patients and that is why intermittent, regular reviews and reassessments are so important to perform.

"Spinal manipulation was defined by the experts on the panel as being any technique delivered by any health professional that involves a high velocity, low amplitude thrust beyond the physiological range of motion, impacting the spine, within the limits of anatomical integrity."The high velocity, low amplitude thrusts that often produce a popping noise when being adjusted are extremely rarely performed on children and toddlers in our practices. We modify our techniques to be gentle and age-appropriate for each patient, especially babies and children.

Key Points from the Review

Parent/guardian reported outcomes

  • 98.4% indicated that the child was ‘much improved' or 'somewhat improved’ after treatment.
  • 99.1% indicated that they were either ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the information provided by the chiropractor about the benefits of treatment.
  • 95.8% indicated that they were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the information provided about the risks of the treatment.

What the report did NOT say

  • The report did NOT say that chiropractic care is unsafe
  • The report did NOT say that chiropractic has no evidence
  • The report does NOT support a ban on chiropractic care for children
  • The report did NOT suggest that ALL children will benefit from chiropractic care

What the report DID say

  • More research is needed in managing health conditions with chiropractic
  • Most parents taking their children to a chiropractor are also seeing another health professional
  • NO specific or confirmed instances of proven harm were presented in any submission.

Our practice will continue to support research efforts for chiropractic and spinal health. We will continue to work collaboratively with other health professionals and refer to other professionals when appropriate.

Other interesting points from the report

  • The only group of survey respondents who mostly opposed chiropractic care of children (53.6%) were "Practitioner who has not provided spinal care for a child under 12 in the past three years (n=92)"
"Submissions made by bodies representative of the medical or physiotherapy professions raised concerns related to the potential harm of chiropractic spinal manipulation on children under 12 years. In particular, there was specific concern about potential risks of harm associated with spinal manipulation of very young children, i.e. those under 2 years of age. However, no specific or confirmed instances of proven harm were presented in any submission. Nonetheless, it was the professional view of those groups that in the absence of evidence of benefit, the risks of harm were sufficient to recommend banning chiropractic spinal manipulation of children."It is important to keep in mind that this report also reviews and may come to affect Osteopaths, physiotherapists and Medical practitioners who can also provide spinal manipulations.

There is more to come of this, as state health ministers wrap up final meetings tomorrow. We'll keep you posted!

Final Thoughts:

  • The Chiropractic Domain will continue to support further research into the efficacy and safety of chiropractic care, particularly for babies and children.
  • We will continue to modify our techniques to provide age-appropriate chiropractic care.
  • We believe that all parents should have the choice to bring their children to a chiropractor if they choose to
  • We will continue to provide care and re-measure outcomes periodically to ensure the best outcomes for everyone who attends our practices
  • We are disappointed by media coverage today in ran in News Limited papers around the country this morning that did not accurately portray the findings within the report.
  • We agree with the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) response - you can read it here
  • "Like so many medical procedures involving children, the evidence is sparse when it comes to spinal care for children.  This is something we are working on as a profession globally - in fact, the largest study of its kind looking at chiropractic care for colic is currently underway in Denmark.
  • Chiropractors are 5-year university-trained practitioners, and as registered health professionals we go through an informed consent process with all patients, which outlines the benefits and risks or care.
  • It’s important to put risk into perspective as chiropractic care for children is of exceeding low risk. The review panel found no serious adverse events in Australian academic literature and no insurance claims due to paediatric chiropractic care have been lodged in Australia. This is despite the fact approximately 30,000 children (<18yo) see a chiropractor every week here in Australia.
  • Chiropractic care is safe for children because chiropractors are trained to suitably modify techniques to suit age and presentation. These are very gentle and precise procedures, not designed to give the ‘click’ often associated with adult spinal manipulation." - ACA
