What is Sports Chiropractic?
Sports chiropractic is a branch of chiropractic for those with an interest and expertise in treating athletes.
The focus of sports chiropractic is to provide care in the conservative management, rehabilitation and performance optimisation of the neuromusculoskeletal system for athletes. Sports chiropractors are also strongly driven to participate in a multi-disciplinary sports injury care environment to help provide the best care for each athlete.
Sports chiropractic achieves this focus through the application of a multimodal treatment approach that includes one or more of the following: manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue therapies, electrotherapy, rehabilitation and other movement/exercise therapies, nutritional advice, strapping and bracing and other related approaches. These approaches are applied to injury management in the form of acute, subacute and chronic injury as well as in the prevention of injury and the optimisation of athletic performance through the pursuit of the highest efficiency in neuromusculoskeletal functioning.
"With the Australian love of sports, chiropractors regularly come across sporting-related ailments and provide care to patients who participate in sport.
The Chiropractors’ Association of Australia (CAA) has long been committed to sports, having sponsored several elite athletes in the past, such as Olympic gold-medal winner Matthew Mitcham and champion swimmer Ellen Fullerton.
Sports Chiropractic Australia (SCA) is CAA’s clinical interest group for sport. SCA coordinates sports chiropractic care at community, state, national and international level sporting events. It also provides support to members who work with sporting teams. Sports chiropractors are proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injury.
Many of today’s athletes utilise a sports chiropractor to prevent injury and to improve biomechanical and neuromuscular function with the ultimate goal of enhancing performance.
All chiropractors provide care in management, rehabilitation and performance optimisation. Whether you are a backyard beginner or a pin-up professional, consider The Chiropractic Domain to help keep you moving at your best."
