Chiropractic is a system of complementary medicine based on the diagnosis and treatment of misalignment’s of the joints, especially those of the spinal column. We focus on your spine because it is what protects our nervous system.
Musculo-skeletal problems must be identified before treatment is provided.
At The Chiropractic Domain we provide thorough assessment, in order to properly understand your symptoms and their causes.
Our treatment can help with
Good posture is important because when we position the body in the correct sitting and standing postures, there is even pressure on the spine, its surrounding muscles and ligaments. Having good posture can reduce physical stress on the body.
Deviation from normal posture can weaken and shorten the muscles around the spine causing imbalances in the body, leading to pain and symtpoms.
Poor pelvis alignment may affect your postural endurance meaning that you may be in pain when sitting or working.
As part of your Chiropractic Care schedule, your posture will be reassessed and exercises may be implemented to ensure that poor posture doesn’t adversely affect your health and your life.
‘sEMG’ stands for static Electromyography. It is a device that measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, more commonly known as muscle tension.
sEMG is similar in function to an EcG which measure heart muscle activity. The ‘Thermal’ Element of the scanner provides us with further data regarding how spinal misalignments and muscle tension are impacting your body.
The scanner also measures the symmetry of the left and right side of your body, showing us how your body has adapted to cope with your daily endeavours.
The sEMG is not an invasive procedure and does not produce additional radiation.
As part of your Chiropractic Care schedule, the scan will be re-performed to accurately track the impact of care on your overall health
With the manual adjusting technique used at The Chiropractic Domain, X-rays help your Chiropractor understand the bio-mechanics of your joints to make your adjustments more precise. By using X-ray, we can understand the affect previous physical trauma, or wear and tear has had on your body.
It is very important for us to rule out unknown factors behind pain, stiffness or discomfort before adjusting your spine. There is a vast number of common conditions that can be identified using our digital X-ray facilities and we commonly use X-ray images to identify or rule out congenital or structural abnormalities, for example, 1-5 patients have sacralisation of the fifth lumbar vertebra.
We do not X-ray pregnant women, radiotherapy patients or children who do not present with trauma or postural deformity indicators.
Without X-rays your Chiropractor may need to modify their adjusting technique.
Pregnancy is not gentle on your body; your body is undergoing changes to make it the perfect home for your little one.
By correcting spinal misalignments Chiropractic helps to relieve stress on the body, helping work towards and maintain optimal musculoskeletal health for yourself and your baby.
As the hormone relaxan is increased during pregnancy, pelvic instability resulting in low back pain is common. As well as growing a tiny human and dealing with heightened emotional load, our aim is to reduce as much physical pain and symptoms as we can.
At The Chiropractic Domain we have a special interest in pregnancy and paediatric care, so if you have any questions we look forward to answering them all before Chiropractic treatment.

Chiropractic adjustments for babies are very gentle; as gentle as checking the ripeness of a tomato.
Your baby is precious to you, our team at The Chiropractic Domain and we are here to answer all your questions before examining and treating your child.
The aim is always to keep your family informed, supported and healthy.
At The Chiropractic Domain we use the Well-Kids program to thoroughly and examine children and adolescents. We identify if primitive reflexes have been integrated, measure a child’s ability to reach milestones and how their lifestyles may be impacting their health.
The Well-Kids program allows integrated family health not just by speaking to parents, but also involving your children in their own health journey.
Lower back pain is a serious issue for adolescents and should not simply be dismissed as ‘growing pains’
Early detection and intervention of spinal issues and postural issues in childhood may prevent muskuloskeletal issues in adulthood.
Chiropractors are ideally placed to assess and address early postural issues before the teenage growth spurt. It may bring to the forefront minor neck and back pain issues which are reported in the primary school years. At The Chiropractic Domain we take our role of assessing children using appropriate methods and diagnostics tools seriously.
With the increased amount of screen time children have in front TV’s computer, tablets and phones, children are more likely to develop poor posture during formative years.
Research points to improper use of school bags as a primary source of back and neck pain in children. It has been observed that an exceedingly high percentage of children don’t use or pack school bags correctly…. imagine the effect of this over their school career!
Please contact us if you’d like your child assessed by one of our friendly Chiropractors.
We are often told “I’m too old to start Chiropractic care”
You are never too old to start anything! Chiropractic is suited to, and safe for all ages. In fact a study on seniors with neck pain using Chiropractic and gentle exercise can be read about here.
“Neck pain affects an estimated 20% of adults over the age of 70. Unfortunately, many elderly patients suffer from coexisting conditions, and because of the possibility of drug interference, cannot use prescription painkillers. Others may wish to use drug-free treatments out of personal preference. This makes conservative treatments like chiropractic care even more important for the management of neck pain in the elderly.”
A very common complaint made by our senior clinic community is that their balance has been impacted.
Your brain is responsible for every single movement you perform. This message is passed from the brain to the nerves via the spinal cord. What protects your nervous system? Your spine!
Additionally, your brain is also receiving messages from the body; this is called proprioception. Think of this as a continuous loop between the brain and body. Your neck and ankles are two of the biggest sources of proprioceptive input that not only helps you move where you want to, but to keep you upright and balanced.
Dr Paula at our Goodwood location offers functional movement sessions with the aim of assessing movements and exercise patterns, and correcting movements that may reinforce poor posture, or increase your risk of injury in the future.
The sessions can be used as part of your existing exercise plan, or an ‘at-home’ set of resistance exercises can be prescribed to improve posture and help you meet your health goals.
Dr Paula will guide you through light, resisted movements ask you to rest, restore proper posture, reinforce that posture using an activator adjustment where needed to rebuild the brain-body connection.
