Information on Chiropractic

We have the privilege of serving our local community through our locations in Goodwood and Mt Gambier in our states south east.

Our company’s purpose is to provide exceptional Chiropractic care in a caring environment. We achieve this by being thorough in our analysis of the patient and the problems they come to us with. We have been operating this way for over 15 years and we have been able to help a wide variety of people from all walks of life with many different health concerns.

As a new client to this clinic the chiropractor will take a thorough history and explain how Chiropractic relates to your spine, nervous system and your body as a whole. We use up to date technology to find out where things may be going wrong such as this nerve scan which tells the chiropractor if there is interference to the nervous system and how it might be affecting your body. We often refer clients for x-ray of their spine, or take them on-site, as this is an important part of understand a person’s problem.

During your second visit to our practice, we take the time to explain the results of the findings of examinations and tests then make recommendations for program of care and deliver the first adjustment.

We will be able to help many aspects of your health through a thorough analysis of your spine and nervous system using the latest technology. Please contact either of our branches to book an initial consultation to begin your journey to better health.

Starting Chiropractic Care

To have good health it is important to have a straight and flexible spine with a balanced pelvis.

Starting Chiropractic Care may seem daunting at first, but before your first adjustment your Chiropractor will fully explain what they are going to do and why. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you need, after all this is your health we are talking about!

Many people are unaware that misalignments of the spinal bones or pelvis can irritate the nerves that carry information from our brain to our body. The result of this can be pain, muscle tension and poorly functioning organs or circulation.

Misalignments of joints can fast forward the arthritic process.

The Chiropractic Domain specialises in looking after people who need help with:

  • back or neck pain
  • headaches and migraines
  • shoulder, hip and knee problems
  • sporting injuries
  • pregnancy care
  • children and baby care

When you come to us for help the Chiropractor will first talk with you to find out what your problem is, examine you and conduct a nerve scan. Often spinal x-ray are included in the assessment process. These can be done on-site by the Chiropractor.

When you return for your second visit the Chiropractor will analyse your x-rays, scans and examination results, explain what the problem is and what we can do to help. You will then receive your first adjustment

A recommendation will be made for a program of chiropractic care to improve, and ultimately correct your problems.

Our clients get the best results when they follow through with this advice.

At the Chiropractic Domain we are asked a range of questions daily. Here is a list of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). If you cannot find the answer to your question, please do not hesitate to call one of our clinics or email us at

Q. Why is it a good idea to visit a Chiropractor?
A. the best way to manage your health is to prevent health issues arising in the first place. Chiropractic is a safe, proven and effective drug free choice in spainal healthcare. Not only does Chiropractic care assist with pain relief, it corrects dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system and nerve system. Chiropractors can also provide lifestyle health advice on diet, flexibility, exercise and improving you postural fitness.
Q. Do Chiropractic adjustments hurt?
A. Generally, Chiropractic adjustments do not hurt. You may feel or hear a popping sound from the spinal joints. This is simply caused by a gas release from the joint and spinal movement is restored.
Q. What do Chiropractors do?
A. Chiropractors adjust the spine and musculoskeletal system to minimise pain and movement problems caused by vertebral misalignments to optimise overall health.
Q. Do I have to have x-rays taken before I can have treatment?
A. Before adjusting the spine a thorough examination is conducted by your chiropractor. Part of this examination often includes x-rays that can be done in the clinic. It is very important to us to rule out unknown factors behind pain, stiffness or discomfort before adjusting your spine. Read more here.
Q. I am worried that the technique used is too harsh for my child, is the technique different for babies and children?

 A. There are a variety of techniques that are used and are appropriate for children depending on their presentation. For example using hands-on low force adjustments or ‘Activator’ instrument adjusting. Any adjustments performed on a child are first discussed with the parent or guardian before treatment begins.

Q.How long before I will see any results?

 A. Everybody is different. Many patients say that they feel different after just one adjustment! Others find that it take several weeks to the body to respond. Each adjustment builds on the one before and over time the spine is encouraged to make changes and healing begins.  Some of the factors that will influence your response is the length of time you have had the problem, whether there is evidence of previous injury or wear and tear, and the lifestyle you lead. However, what is true for everyone is that if you follow our treatment recommendations and engage yourself in the healing process by doing the exercises, stretches and posture changes we suggest for you, you will get the best response in the shortest possible time.

Q. Do you have the facilities for me to claim my private health rebate at the time of my appointment?

A. Both practices have onsite HICAPS claiming facilities available.  We can claim your private health on the spot with your current card, should you have “extras” covering Chiropractic.
We can also claim medicare bulk billing on the spot if you are an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) patient.
Patients with a Gold or White may be eligible for DVA funded care with a referral from their GP.

Q. How much will this cost?

A. Our fees can be found one our “Fees” page

Q. How long will this take?

A. For your initial consultation you should allow up to 45 minutes to 1 hour
For your Report of Findings (2nd consultation and treatment) you should allow 30-45 minutesAny subsequent appointments take between 5 & 15 minutes, so they are easily slotted into your day.As far as how long it will take for you to be “fixed” that is;
a) dependent on how you approach chiropractic, either as a band-aid for pain or as a wellness journey in the pursuit of health, not cure.
b) your symptoms, age and lifestyle outside of chiropractic

Q. Can I get a massage while I’m getting chiropractic treatment or will this “undo” all your work?

A. We encourage you to try remedial massage alongside Chiropractic care if you feel it will help you. Remedial Massage can compliment the work that your Chiropractor has done. Massage focuses on soft tissue manipulation to relax the muscles and optimise health, chiropractic adjusts misalignments of the spine. This can be easier when the muscles are already relaxed by massage. There is an on-site remedial massage therapist available at both practices.

Q. Do you have Eftpos facilities?

 A. Yes, we do have Eftpos facilities. We accept cash, most major credit cards and cheque.
Please note, we do not accept American Express.

Q. How do you differ from other chiropractors?

A. Chiropractors vary a great deal in the management of problems, some providing quick-fix, ‘band-aid’ types of care or dealing with the presenting issues only. Others look for contributing or underlying factors and work towards a longer term solution, we have the latter approach. Chiropractors also differ in their adjusting techniques and assessment methods. We routinely use neuro–spinal functional measuring technology and employ radiographic analysis of postural spinal x-rays. Chiropractors also differ when it comes to promoting and encouraging healthy lifestyles and well-being and teaching their clients about how they can help themselves. We identify with being “Health Promoting Chiropractors”

Q. Is Chiropractic Safe?

A. The New Zealand Government’s Inquiry found that Chiropractic care is “remarkably safe.” As Chiropractic does not use invasive techniques or addictive drugs it is very safe.1In relation to the treatment of neck and back pain, studies have shown that a course of Chiropractic care was250 times safer than a course of anti-inflammatory drugs.2

Q. Am I too old to start Chiropractic?

 A. You are never too old to start anything, especially Chiropractic. Chiropractic is suited to, and safe for all ages. In fact a study on seniors with neck pain using Chiropractic and gentle exercise can be read about here.
“Neck pain affects an estimated 20% of adults over the age of 70. Unfortunately, many elderly patients suffer from coexisting conditions, and because of the possibility of drug interference, cannot use prescription painkillers. Others may wish to use drug-free treatments out of personal preference. This makes conservative treatments like chiropractic care all the more important for the management of neck pain in the elderly.”

Q. What technique do you use?

A. Our primary technique is using manual adjusting using a special “drop-piece” table as well as Diversified and Gonstead. There are some occasions when it is appropriate for us to use gentle techniques such as SOT (sacro-occiptial technique), or NIP (neuro impulse protocol)  in acute cases or with children, infants , pregnancy or frail adults.
